Even after 273 years of its existence this city shaped out of the desert looks as fresh as a blushing rose. Its the only city in the world symbolising the nine divisions of the universe through nine rectangular sectors subdividing it. The ancient forts and palaces screate a dramatic picture replete with images of a bygone era and gives a stunning backdrop to the city. Jaipur, with its colourful bazaars festivals and fairs throbs with life. 

Major Tourist Attractions 
Amer Palace: This towering structure is believed to have been seat of power of the Minas, the original inhabitants of Rajasthan. 

City Palace: This intricate blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture houses the Chandra Mahal, Palace Museum and the Govind Dev Temple. 

Hawa Mahal: This beehive-like structure is an intricate interplay red and pink sandstone.The carefully outline dwhite borders and motifs gives an elegant look to this edifice of Rajasthani architecture. 

Nahargarh fort: This fort which now stands in ruins is like an ever watchful sentinel guarding the beautiful of Sawai Jai Singh. 

Jantar Mantar: This amazing astronomical observatory speaks volumes about the progress made the Rajputana in the field of astronomy. 

Palace on Wheels: A luxury train in which one can journey into the imperial cities of Rajasthan. This fairytale journey has an aura of the glorius past inherent in the Rajputana era. This state-of-the-art train is equipped with the most modern amenities like bar lounges, saloons, libraties, a restaurant and shopping facilities. 

Excursions around Jaipur 
Bairath: 86 kms away on the Shahpur-Alwar road, its a significant historical site with the remains of a circular Buddhist temple. It also houses relics of the ancient Mauryan period, of the Mughals and the Rajputs. 

Galta: This serene landscape lying 2.5 kms away from Jaipur is an old centre of pilgrimage. Everywhere the place is dotted with temples, pavillions and natural springs which are regarded as sacred. 

Ramgad Lake: This artificial lake amidst the sylvan hills serves as an idyllic picnic spot. Its located 32 kms north-east of Jaipur. 

Samode: Lying 40 kms north-west, this beautiful palace is the quintessence of the haveli architecture which was much in vogue among the Rajputs. Its a great outing spot. 

Getting to Jaipur 
Jaipur is connected to all important Indian cities via road, rail and air. A convenient connection from Delhi is by the Shatabdi Express which takes only four and a half hours. Jaipur's Sanganer Airport is just a 30 minute drive from most of the hotels. 

Local Transport: Tourist taxis and RTDC buses; also hired cars.
